Panchkula, August 31

Upset over alleged inaction by the Hisar police in a case in which he was allegedly duped of Rs 27 lakh by a friend, a resident of Hisar, Sunil Sardana, who was missing for the past three days, today attempted suicide at the Police Headquarters in Sector 6 here.

Sunil, who took celphos tablets with a glass of juice, was rushed to the General Hospital, Sector 6, from where he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

He was sitting in the office of the Additional Director General of Police (ADGP), Mohammad Akil, during the public meeting hours regarding his case when the ADGP smelled some odour. On being asked, Sunil said he had taken celphos tablets. The officer immediately asked the pharmacist of the Police Headquarters to rush the victim to the hospital.

“Sunil was missing from his home since August 27 and his mother Bimla Devi had got a case lodged at the local police station stating that her son was upset over a money matter. Today, he reached the headquarters and attempted suicide,” said a spokesperson for the Haryana police.

Twenty days ago, the victim had got a complaint lodged with the Hisar police stating that his friend Vivek Makkar and his friend’s wife Neeti Makkar had borrowed Rs 27 lakh in instalments from him, but did not return it. Later, he searched for the duo, but they were not found. An inquiry was ordered to Sub-Inspector Satbir, the SHO of the Hisar City police station, but nothing was done and the police took money from the other party, alleged the victim.

According to the police, Sunil attempted suicide for the second time. A few days ago, he had made another attempt at home but it was foiled by his mother. Then he approached the local police on August 11, but nothing was done. Finally, he went missing on August 27. In his complaint, Sunil has held the duo and Sub-Inspector Satbir Singh of the Hisar City police station responsible.

A spokesperson for the Police Headquarters said a probe in this regard had been ordered to the Superintendent of Police (SP), Hisar. The Panchkula police had also been directed to take necessary action.

Victim’s condition stable

The authorities at the PGI said the victim had consumed celphos tablets. His condition was serious when he was admitted, but now his condition was stable.
