‘Kachi Khera’ to be declared protected site

The historical site of ‘Kachi Khera’ in Palwal district will be declared a protected archaeological site, Haryana government said on Friday.

The Haryana government has a plan to declare the ancient site of ‘Kachi Khera’ as protected archaeological site under the Punjab Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964.

A notification in this effect has been issued, a spokesman of the Archeology and Museums Department said.

The ancient site of Kachi Khera and mound Kachi Khera are situated in village Garhi Patti, Tehsil Hodal in Palwal district. The revenue Khasra/Kila number 449/66 will also be included under the state protection, he said.

The site spread on an area of 39 kanal and 14 marla is at present under the ownership of Gram Panchayat Garhi Patti. It belongs to different cultural phases, i.e. ranging from Painted Grey Ware cultural period to Kushana period.

The state government has stated that the matter would be taken into consideration on or after the expiry of a period of two months from the date of publication of the notification in the official gazette, together with objections and suggestions, if any, from any person with respect to the proposal which may be received by the Principal Secretary, Archeology and Museums Department, Haryana, Chandigarh, the spokesman added. — PTI
