Jalandhar, September 25

Four members of a Jalandhar family — Anil Aggarwal, his wife Rajni, both in their fifties, son Abhishekh (25) and daughter Rashi (20) — died after consuming sulphas tablets. Their bodies were found near Kishangarh on the Jalandhar-Jammu highway this morning.

The family was being “harassed” by private moneylenders, said police sources.

The Bhogpur police claimed to have arrested two of the eight persons mentioned in a suicide note found in  Anil’s pocket. Anil, a property dealer, had taken loan from Arvind Pal, Sanjeev, Deepak, Gurmukh, Atul, Kulvir, Rajvir Kaur and Mandeep Nadda. Despite having “repaid” the money along with interest, he was being harassed with threats that his daughter and wife would be abducted if he failed to pay back.

Bhogpur SHO Lakhvir Singh said the bodies had been sent for post-mortem and an FIR registered on the basis of the suicide note and the statement of one of the relatives of the deceased. “Raids are on to arrest the other accused,” he said. — TNS
