New Delhi, February 18

Jangpura ward, which has two historic gurdwaras – Bala Sahib and Damdama Sahib, will see a triangular contest. All the candidates are going door to door to contact the voters.

Kuldip Singh Bhogal, SAD (Badal) candidate who has completed two rounds of campaigning, is reminding the electorate about his personal achievements.

One of those was preventing the Guru Harkrishan Hospital from going into private hands. He had filed a case in court against the then gurdwara management committee that had signed a contract to hand over the hospital to a private company on the condition of providing cheap rate of treatment for a fixed percentage of poor patients.

Besides, he is also mentioning the beautification of Damdama Sahib Gurdwara and achievements of the Manjit Singh GK-led Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC). He devotes 12 hours for campaigning in the ward daily.

Tarvinder Singh Marwah is the sitting candidate. In the previous elections, he had contested on the ticket of Kendriya Guru Singh Sabha. But in this election, he is in the fray as an Independent as the sabha was denied election symbol by the Directorate of Gurdwara Elections, Delhi Government, on technical grounds.

He is a former MLA of the Congress and has rich experience of contesting elections. He has a strong team of workers, but the anti-incumbency factor may go against him.

The third strong contestant in the ward is Shamsher Singh Sandhu who is contesting on the ticket of Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) led by Paramjit Singh Sarna.

The sacrilege of Guru Granth Sahib, support of Dera Sacha Sauda sought by SAD (Badal) in the Assembly elections in Punjab and other issues raised by Sarna may go in his favour.
