New Delhi, June 16

Three member 4of the “Gala Ghotu” gang, infamous for choking people from behind and robbing them, have been arrested, the police said on Sunday.

The accused have been identified as Vakeel (32) of Uttar Pradesh, Parvesh (26) of New Delhi and Mithlesh (22) of Bihar. With their arrest, the police have solved two robbery cases.

On the intervening night of June 15 and 16, the gang choked a man from behind before snatching his mobile phone. On Sunday, another person was attacked in the same fashion. The two mobile phones have been recovered.

Assistant Sub-inspector (ASI) Rajbir was patrolling near gate no. 6 of Lady Harding Medical College on Sunday when he heard a boy shouting for help. On approaching him, the boy informed the ASI that some persons in an auto-rickshaw robbed him of his mobile phone and fled towards Nehru Chowk.

After a brief chase, the ASI intercepted the auto-rickshaw at Nehru Chowk light point. Vakeel, who was driving the auto-rickshaw, was apprehended, while four of his accomplices managed to escape along with the robbed mobile phone. Two of them — identified as Parvesh and Mithlesh — were later arrested from their hideout in Ajmeri Gate.

During interrogation, Vakeel revealed the identity of his accomplices on the run as Ganjeri and Mundari, DCP Madhur Verma said, adding that the auto-rickshaw was seized.
