New Delhi, August 20

With just a day to go for the campaigning to end for the Bawana bypoll, the three major political parties— the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress on Sunday employed their top leaders to do the last bit in wooing the electorate as hectic rallies marked almost the entire day.

Since early part of the day, the ruling AAP propelled its prospects with Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia apart from other ministers and party colleagues reaching out to voters in the northwest Delhi seat. They held padyatras, addressed meetings at places, including Shahbad Dairy, Lal Quarters, Kanjhawala and Begumpur seeking votes for AAP candidate Ramchandra.

Leaving no chances, the BJP campaigns on Sunday saw leaders not only from its Delhi unit but also had senior party leaders and ministers from the central and Haryana governments. Apart from Delhi unit leaders, those participating in the campaigns, include Union Minister Birendra Singh, Northwest Delhi MP Udit Raj and Haryana ministers Captain Abhimanyu and Ram Bilas Sharma, among others.

Delhi unit leaders and legislators too held door-to-door campaigns and rallies during the day in the colonies of Bawana Assembly seat, which fell vacant after then AAP MLA Ved Prakash resigned from the Assembly and party in March. Prakash joined the BJP and was fielded as the party candidate in the bypoll slated for August 23.

Tiwari addresses rallies for party candidate

BJP president Manoj Tiwari addressed two huge rallies at Shahbad Dairy and Kishan Vihar in support of Prakash.

Tiwari expressed confidence of winning the seat while assuring that the elected councillors will ensure speedy development of education, health and transport infrastructure of Bawana.

Senior BJP leader Vijender Gupta assured the residents that not only the local elected members but the entire BJP team will fight to ensure better civic amenities in JJ clusters, resettlement colonies, unauthorised Colonies and villages, especially sewerage and water supply.

Seeking to get votes on Modi’s charisma and the Centre’s schemes and programmes, Union Minister Birendra Singh said the party candidate elect will ensure that the youth of the area get benefits from Mudra Loan and Kaushal Vikas schemes.

Captain Abhimanyu and Ram Bilas Sharma stressed that during campaigning in Bawana, they have found that instead of local population those shifting here for commercial purposes have benefited more from development works in last two decades and claimed the majority among locals seem to have decided to vote for BJP.

The Congress too hopes to clinch the seat with its leaders, including Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ajay Maken, seeking votes on the party’s 15 years rule in the national Capital.
