The Delhi Government's inter-ministerial task force to tackle air pollution and solid waste management headed by Public Works Department and Health Minister Satyendar Jain held its first meeting today.

The Chief Minister-appointed inter-ministerial task force finalised its agenda for implementation of a concrete action plan to tackle the twin problems in the coming days, particularly in winter.

Growing problem of landfill sites dominated today's meeting while decentralisation of waste management and innovative, low-cost and effective ideas were discussed to tackle air pollution. Measures to tackle the rise in air pollution due to Diwali were also discussed.

In this regard, Jain has called a meeting of all stakeholders, including the three Municipal Corporations, NDMC, Environment, DPCC, Transport, and other departments on Wednesday.

In the coming days, more such deliberation sessions, with all the stakeholders, will be held. The task force will submit its detailed recommendations to the Supreme Court.

"There was brainstorming on how to find out short, medium and long-term measures to tackle the problems of air pollution and solid waste management," said an official.
