Speaking at the inauguration of new community toilets with as many as 148 toilets in Kalkaji itself, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today said the minimum wages will be raised to Rs 15,000 by the end of this month.
The CM said the file is awaiting the Lt Governor’s approval while being hopeful of getting the nod soon.
“We are sure of receiving Lt Governor’s assent and we will be able to increase the wages to Rs 15,000 by the end of this month,” Kejriwal said.
The Aam Aadmi Party government had last year sent a proposal to the LG under which minimum wage for an unskilled labourers was raised from Rs 9,568 to Rs 14,052.
Kejriwal said a total of 945 toilets have been inaugurated across the city with an aim to make Delhi open-defecation (OD) free. The move is a step further in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s aim of making the country clean and open-defecation free.
According to the city government, more than 7,000 new community toilets have been constructed since the government assumed office on February 14, 2015 and the government intends to further intensify this work. The government also hopes to provide 10,000 toilet seats before March 2017.
The government aims to provide safe and secure environment to everyone, especially women and for keeping the toilets clean a dedicated maintenance team will be on the job. Such teams will conduct regular inspections of the toilet complexes.
