New Delhi, June 9

Around 500 students of 13 colleges affiliated to Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University (IP University) protested outside the Chief Minister's residence against the fee hike, which has been imposed retrospectively from 2015, at Civil Lines here today.

They met the CM and presented their demands to him. The CM assured them to file a Special Leave Petition (SLP) in the Supreme Court in the coming week. "The CM seemed ignorant about the matter. He said he hasn't gone through the related documents that were handed over to his personal secretary yesterday," said Karan Rohera, a former student of Maharaja Surajmal College.

"Since February, we had written to the CM several times regarding the matter and now he is saying he doesn't know anything about the issue," Rohera said.

When the students asked the CM for compensation, he said, "The government cannot do it. The Opposition will accuse the government of favouring a self-funded college." The students did not receive a satisfactory response from the CM, said Arti Singh, another student. They were not allowed to go near the CM residence citing Section 144 of the CrPC.
