New Delhi, April 28

The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) is all set to roll out from May 1 special, air-conditioned buses between residential localities in the city’s periphery areas and offices in other parts of the Capital.

Twenty low-floor buses will ply non-stop between destinations in residential localities in the suburbs and office areas in central, south, northwest Delhi.

This fleet will be in addition to regular services of the public transport body whose daily ridership stands at 35 lakh and charges will be as per existing fares.

The National Green Tribunal had earlier ordered the government to begin destination bus services to reduce dependence on private vehicles in a bid to check air pollution.

Some of the localities identified for the new service fall in Dwarka, Janakpuri, Rohini, Patparganj and Badarpur from where people can travel to office hubs, including CGO complex, Nehru Place, Shastri Bhawan and Connaught Place.
