Delhi’s Somya Negi has won four medals, including three gold medals, at the recently concluded School Games Federation India’s U-17 archery championship that was held in Jagdalpur.

Somya, who is a tenth standard student in Air Force Bal Bharti School, won gold medals for qualifying first with a score of 667, in mixed team event and the individual competition. She won a team silver in the girl’s category partnering Delhi’s Pragati, Shivani Mandal and Rehana.

In the individual final, she beat Manipur’s Suchitra Tourangham to bag the top spot. Delhi’s Pragati won the bronze in the event.

However, her parents feel that despite winning several medals and bringing laurels to the school, the AFBBS has been lacking in providing her the support that Somya deserves.

“The least they could do is give her space to practise in school. She usually trains in the Yamuna Sports Complex and it becomes a huge task for my wife to take her there. If she gets a place then the amount of time spent in travelling will be cut,” her father said.
