New Delhi, August 19
The Delhi government is mulling conducting its biggest socio-economic survey to assess the future needs of the city’s residents for better planning and framing of policies. For the same, data regarding the basic needs of people will be collected from each household of the national Capital. The information pertaining to education, health, income and employment, social security and socio-economic profile will be recorded during the survey.
The idea behind it is to assess the requirement for infrastructure in the form of more number of schools, colleges, hospitals, creating new employment opportunities, laying water lines and electricity among others.
The findings of the survey will also help in gauging the current reach of various social welfare schemes, such as the public distribution system, scholarships and pensions as well as facilities availed by the low-income group people through the anganwadi centres.
The survey happens to be the first such data collection project by the government for Delhi to cover at least 3.8 million households.
