New Delhi, February 19

As hardly one week is left to go for the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC) elections, candidates in Safdarjung Enclave ward in South Delhi have swung into action canvassing for hours together.

They are concentrating on door-to-door meetings with the electorate in the area. The ward has 9,000 votes.

The Panthak Seva Dal (regd) candidate from Safdurjung Enclave, Kartar Singh Kochar said, “Our main focus is on eradicating corruption in DSGMC administration. If we are elected, we will make sure that economic weaker section in the community gets their dues. The ruling party in the DSGMC, the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has ignored the people of economic weaker section (EWS). Among many things, our party has promised the people for opening of Sikh App, opening up of a Panth Lab and homes to the people of EWS.”

While candidate of SAD Badal, Kuldeep Singh Sawhney is highlighting achievements of his party, candidate of Shiromani Akali Dal (Delhi) led by the Sarna brothers is headmaster Sucha Singh who is pointing out the Guru Harkrishan Hospital issue, education issue, cancellation of admission in polytechnic institute, parking of Bangla Sahib Gurdwara and misuse of money donated by people in Gurdwaras.

Sawhney said, “Our party for the first time in the history of the Sikhs has informed the community about contribution of Sikh General, Baba Baghel Singh. A function was organised at Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium to mark the 300th Martyrdom Anniversary of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur and installation of his statue at Nabha House near Mandi House  are some of our achievements."
