Rally to spread awareness on spinal cord injuries

NEW DELHI: Over 150 wheelchair users and 750 others people, along with 35 bikers participated in this rally to raise awareness that spinal cord injury is preventable and those afflicted can lead an inclusive life.

Over 150 wheelchair users and 750 others people, along with 35 bikers participated in this rally to raise awareness that spinal cord injury is preventable and those afflicted can lead an inclusive life. 

Organised in support of Spinal Cord Injury (SCI) Day in association with International Spinal Cord Society, the event was an advocacy drive to support an inclusive life for persons with disability and ensure greater chances of success of prevention programs. 

"The Indian Government is taking various measures like Accessible India Campaign for the cause," said Union Minister for Science and Technology and Earth Sciences, Dr Harsh Vardhan, at the event. 

In India, the incidence of spinal injuries has been recorded as 20 per million people. The most common manner of injury is falls and accidents.
