NSUI demands Baisoya’s expulsion from DU

The fake degree row embroiling Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ankiv Baisoya of the ABVP has not only emboldened the hopes of the to reclaim the recently lost terrain of the DUSU, but also flags a bigger concern over the credibility of the admission processes of DU.

The fact that even Thiruvalluvar University (TU) has confirmed Baisoya’s BA certificate (bearing reg. no. TVU/BA/500203) is “fake”, actually raises serious questions both on entire DU’s verification mechanism in place for admissions while pointing out at the operation of an alleged “admission racket” in the Department of Buddhist Studies (DBS) in particular.

More so, when the university administration has chosen to be “tight-lipped” even 24 hours after the issue came to the fore.

The NSUI, which has submitted complaints to DU Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Yogesh Tyagi and SHO of the Maurice Nagar Police Station, demanding expulsion of Baisoya with immediate effect and an FIR be registered against him for securing admission in DU with forged certificates and the erring staff and faculty of the DBS under various sections, including forgery (465), cheating (468) and criminal conspiracy (120 B) of the IPC.

“This is indeed an awakening call for the DU VC to review the admission process of DBS, which has become a sanctuary of political scoundrels to obtain a seat for the purpose of contesting DUSU elections,” alleged NSUI’s presidential candidate Sunny Chillar claiming that the department has helped Baisoya procure the fake degree and marksheet.

Chillar further alleged, the DBS itself seems to be “hand in gloves in promoting corrupt persons without scanning and verifying the credentials”.

“Thiruvalluvar University has confirmed that these marksheets, degree and certificates are not genuine...,” read the complaint.

NSUI demands re-poll

The latest revelations by Thiruvalluvar University have given a shot in the arm of the NSUI that is already demanding a re-conduct of the DUSU election with ballot papers.

NSUI national president Fairoz Khan also made a slant reference to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s education qualifications, without naming him, claiming, “The ABVP is certainly following the footsteps of its parent organisation and BJP in furnishing fake certificates to deceive citizens and subvert democracy in their favour”.

Khan accused the RSS-backed ABVP of “capturing the DUSU by tampering” the EVM and helped by the administration and the BJP government. “We also demand announcement of new election date, immediate removal of the DUSU president and his arrest,” Khan said.
