New Delhi, July 15

The National Akali Dal (NAD) today demanded admission for every child in Delhi and targeted the Centre and the Delhi government for failing to provide undergraduate seats to students in the city. Delhi government should open East and West campuses of Delhi University (DU) to cater to burgeoning rise in the number of students applying for a seat in DU, said NAD president Paramjit Singh Pamma.

“Every year after clearing 12th, students of Delhi fail to get admission in Delhi University-run colleges and are forced to look for other options due to the limited number for seats. Eighty thousand students do not get admissions due to lack of seats,” he added.

The DU receives over 1.4 lakh applications from aspiring graduates for its 58,000 seats that the varsity currently offers. On the one hand, the government wants education for every student while students are not getting admissions, Pamma pointed out.
