Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia on Friday complimented his government for introducing "Mindful Meditation" in school curriculum, and claimed of it being a success during one-year of its implementation.

"It is a course to inculcate happiness among children," Sisodia said while speaking at a global launch of "SEE Learning" (Social, Emotional and Ethical Learning), which was presided over by Tibetan spiritual leader the Dalai Lama.

"it is the greatest experiment on ethical education," Sisodia added. He underlined that the course was based on the teachings and philosophy of the Dalai Lama.

The education portfolio in Delhi is under direct charge of Sisodia.

The Delhi government's claim is that the course is being implemented in 20,000 classrooms, spread over 1,000 schools. Every day, 15 lakh students attend it.

Dwelling on its success, Sisodia said the government has been receiving encouraging feedback. There has been a discernible behavioural change among students.

Parents have been reporting to authorities that their wards, who earlier used to be emotionally brittle and throw tantrums, have changed for the better during the period of their attending the course. They have also started manifesting an instinct of caring and sense of responsibility, both towards them and towards their surroundings.

SEE Learning provides educators with comprehensive framework for the cultivation of social, emotional, and ethical competencies. It has been developed by Atlanta-based (USA) Amory University with the help of a team of experts in developmental psychology, education, neuroscience and trauma-informed care.

"The culmination of over two decades of academic cross-cultural collaboration between Emory University and the Dalai Lama, who has long called for an education of heart and mind, SEE Learning conveys a universal, non-sectarian and science-based approach to bringing the ethical development of the whole child into education," said an official relating to the course.
