BJP member Meenakshi Lekhi today demanded that the students of the prestigious Jawaharlal Nehru University should take the pledge of pride in the nation and not create problems if symbols of national pride, such as a tank, are deployed on campus.

"I still remember when my children used to go to school, they would stay after school hours to see the airplane models on display. Sentiments of nationalism come only when you see and feel the symbols of nationalism, JNU has witnessed separatist sloganeering. There is clearly a wide gap between the system and thought. JNU is a central university run with central funds. Such secessionist tendencies on campus as we have seen in the past are an insult to the institution. What is the problem if the JNU V-C wants a tank stationed on campus, as a symbol of India's strength and pride. It's a symbol of solidarity with our soldiers who fight for us so we can live in peace," Lekhi said.
