One of the oldest forces of Delhi, the Directorate General Home Guards yesterday completed its 71 years. The force has been huge helping hand to the Delhi Police since its inception, said the Director General, JK Sharma, Delhi Home Guards, on the occasion.
He said, after the Nirbhaya incident on December 8, 2012, around 1,000 home guards have been deputed in DTC busses as marshals. Apart from this, traffic duties and other duties with the Delhi Police have now been increased.
Various professional courses related to disaster management are being held at Central Training institute of Directorate General of Home Guards to sharpen the professional skills of home guards as well as civil defence volunteers and others, he added.
He said the Government of Delhi has recognised Central Training Institute for imparting training to private security guards and to encourage women empowerment, the training for all the women has been made free of cost. All former home guards are also trained free of cost here. So far, 240 women have been trained in the centre.
He expressed his pleasure as the tenure of home guard volunteers, who were due to be discharged between October l, 2017 and March 3l, 20l9, has been extended for one more year.
