Govt schools perform better

Students of Delhi Government schools have fared better than their counterparts in private schools in the city in class 12 results which were declared by the Central Broad of Secondary Education (CBSE).

Notably, the CBSE, which was forced to continue with its moderation policy for this year after Delhi High Court’s intervention, has scrapped the revaluation provision even as the process of marks verification and providing photocopy of answer booklets will be there.

“No request for revaluation will be entertained by the Board," said a CBSE official.

Also, Delhi wherein 2,10,034 candidates were successful (88.37 pass percentage ) out of the 2,37,660 who took the CBSE 12 exams, ranked third among the 10 regions after Trivendrum (95.62 per cent) and Chennai (92.60 per cent).

However, the Delhi Government’s sought-after Rajkiya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalayas (RPVVs) left behind the Central Government’s Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) scoring a pass percentage of 99.7 whereas the KV’s pass score stood at 94.6 per cent.

Vikas Upadhyay of Rastriya Pratibha Vikas Vidyalaya (RPVV) Yamuna Vihar bagged top position among all disciplines securing 97 per cent (marks obtained 485/500). Vikas aspires to be a doctor and is awaiting the NEET-UG results slated for June.

“Got to know about the result from my elder son and it is more or less as expected. Vikas has appeared for the AIIMS MBBS exams today and is hopeful,” Vikas’ father Satish Upadhyay, a resident of Karawal Nagar told The Tribune.

Upadhyay, who was on his way from Roorkee, said that his son would drop a year if he fails to get through either of the tests for MBBS in Delhi and NCR and may not apply this year in any other college.

Among the other toppers in Delhi, Garvit Dang of RPVV Shalimar Bagh remained the top scorer in commerce stream with 96.2 per cent, i.e. 481 out of 500 while student of Sarvodaya Kanya Vidyalaya Nangloi, Jyoti stood first scoring 94.8 per cent (474 out of 500 marks). Harshita of SKV Dhansa grabbed the top position in vocational with 93 per cent (465/500). The Delhi region has the highest number of candidates (2,58,321).

For the second year in row, the government schools have outperformed (88.27 per cent) the private ones (79.27), with the former’s lead in pass percentage rising to 9 per cent from the last time’s two per cent over the latter in the national Capital.

Besides, as many as 33 students have scored a perfect 100 score in one or more subjects while the number of schools which have a pass percentage of more than 90 per cent has gone up from 547 to 554 this year.

The toppers of all schools and streams will be felicitated, said Deputy Chief Minister and Education Minister Manish Sisodia congratulating children, teachers and principals on the outstanding performance.
