A major fire gutted a plastic footwear factory in the Narela Industrial area here today, police said.

The blaze was reported in the basement, ground and first floor of a three-floor building at 7.14 am; 23 fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The blaze was doused by 10.50 am, the official said.

Delhi Fire Service (DFS) department officials said, the factory was spread in 350 square yards and DFS received a call from a local resident. Fire tenders were rushed to the spot. As the fire engulfed the factory the people working in the factory were rescued safely and no casualty has been reported in the incident.

Fire at Shahdara

In another incident, a fire broke out on the third floor of a residential building in Dilshad Colony today, a DFS official said.

The incident took place around 3 pm and two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Tajbar Singh Rawat, the house owner, said, "I was sleeping in my bedroom and my family members were downstairs. My neighbour called out aloud after seeing smoke emanating from our drawing room. I jumped into their balcony and informed police and fire brigade." It was revealed that the fire took place due to a short circuit in an inverter kept in the drawing room. — TNS
