Fire breaks out at cloth godown

A major fire broke out at a garments godown in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar this morning. At least 21 fire tenders were rushed to the spot to douse the blaze. 

Chief fire officer Atul Garg said around six shops were gutted in the fire, however, there was no casualty. 

Fire services department received a call about the incident around 7.47 am, he said. The fire official confirmed that initially 10 fire tenders were rushed to the spot, however, seeing the intensity of the blaze, they pressed another 11 fire tenders. 

The fire was brought under control by 10.30 am. The fire broke out at the ground floor and first floor of the three storied building and it rapidly spread to other shops adjacent to the godown, fire department official said. 

The trigger behind the blaze is yet to be known, but prima facie short circuit is suspected to have started it. 

No fire extinguishers or fire -fighting equipment were installed at the cloth godown, alleged the chief fire officer. Fire tenders had also faced difficulties to reach the spot as the market was congested one, alleged fire department official.

The Gandhi Nagar market is one of the most congested areas of the Capital with a number of factories and residential houses.
