The Delhi government on Wednesday announced a Rs 105 per KW monthly subsidy to agricultural consumers on fixed charges of electricity connections with effect from April 1, 2018.

The electricity subsidy is expected to benefit, at least, 11,000 consumers and a budgetary outlay of Rs 7.50 crore has been made for its retrospective implementation.

The move in line with the Aam Aadmi Party’s “subsidy-oriented” governance is significant coming ahead of the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections and the assembly polls next year.

The decision was taken in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. The relief on exiting tariff will be provided retrospectively to agricultural connections in Delhi for the fiscal years 2018-19 and 2019-20.

“This decision will be communicated to the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission,” said the government in a statement.

The private discoms will have to ensure that subsidy is released only to genuine agricultural consumers/connections.

“The entire amount of subsidy to be released to DISCOMs shall be credited to the accounts of IPGCL, PPCL and DTL to the extent of outstanding current dues of DISCOMs to these companies,” the government stated.
