DUSIB okays construction of 5,012 EWS housing units

The Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) today approved construction of 5,012 housing units for people belonging to economically weaker section (EWS) at an estimated cost of Rs 654 crore.

The board also ratified the decision of granting no objection certificate and user permission for setting up 50 mohalla clinics on its land in different Jhuggi Jhopari Rehabilitation (JJR) colonies.

The houses will come up at three locations in the city — Pocket-F, Bhalswa, in Jahangirpuri, Dev Nagar in Karol Bagh and Kasturba Niketan in Lajpat Nagar.

The decisions were taken at a meeting chaired by Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and was attended by Urban Development Minister Satyendar Jain and other senior officers.

An official said all housing complexes for in-situ rehabilitation of urban slums in the city will be 14 storied each.

The board will request the government to allocate Rs 500 crore as seed money for taking up the proposed projects.

Of 5,012 housing units finalised for the EWS, 3,780 will be constructed at Pocket-F, Bhalswa in Jahangirpuri at a cost of Rs 493.40 crore whereas 784 housing units will come up at Dev Nagar in Karol Bagh at a cost of Rs 102.28 crore. Besides, 448 EWS housing units will be constructed at Kasturba Niketan in Lajpat Nagar at a cost of Rs 58.65 crore.

The board approved setting up of early childhood care and education centre by allotting 10 Basti Vikas Kendras to Ambedkar University in association with the Directorate of Higher Education.

The budget of the DUSIB for the financial year 2017-18 was presented at Rs 381.47 crore and approved Rs 165.72 crore for non-plan and Rs 215.75 crore for plan budget.

The board will undertake the execution of plan works to the tune of Rs 215.75 crore which include construction of jan suvidha complexes, environmental up gradation in urban slums and construction of night shelters.
