Director accused of misusing position

All India Institute of Medical Sciences Director Dr MC Misra is accused of "misusing" his position- in the appointment of Dr Umesh Kapil, professor of Human Nutrition Unit (non-clinical discipline), as the new head of the Department of Gastroenterology here. 

The matter today reached the Central Administrative Tribunal as the notification naming Dr Kapil as the head of Gastroenterology Department after Prof SK Acharya demitted office, has been challenged by Dr Anoop Saraya, seniormost professor of Department of Gastroenterology.

Dr Saraya has acted as the head of the department since 2004 in the HoD's absence and is understood to have been the obvious choice of department as Dr Acharya's successor. 

In response to Dr Saraya's petition, which termed the institute’s administration's move "grossly irregular and illegal," the tribunal has served a notice to the AIIMS which has to respond within two weeks and the matter is posted for hearing on December 7.
