New Delhi, February 20

Come February 24, Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chairperson Swati Maliwal, along with members of the commission and volunteers, will walk through the streets across the national capital to address problems faced by women on a day-to-day basis on the spot.

The DCW is embarking on a 13-day foot march for bringing into focus the issues of women safety, police accountability and the need for raising resources as well as setting up fast-track courts for crimes against women.

Before the initiative culminates on March 8 with an event organised at Connaught Place, on the International Women’s Day the commission will also launch a Delhi government's pilot scheme, Mahila Suraksha Dal, comprising civil defence volunteers tasked with creating awareness in the community and helping women redress their complaints.

The women protection force will engage volunteers from the community to become ‘Mahila Suraksha Mitra’ and the commission has requested those interested to join the foot march to call on 9350-181-181.

She also appealed to people to become partners in safety of women and ensuring responsibility is fixed for wrongdoings after announcing that she, along with her team, will undertake a 'padyatra' from February 24 to March 8 to raise awareness on women issues.

DCW launches study on plight of war widows

Maliwal said the commission has launched a study to assess the condition of war widows residing in Delhi and ascertain the problems by them and their families.

The commission has written to the Home and Defence ministries seeking names and addresses of such families. Maliwal requested the Centre to avenge the Pulwama terror attack which led to the killing of CRPF personnel.
