Criminal wanted in 65 cases nabbed

Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested notorious robber Dhananjay alias Pathan alias Barood (31) of Muzaffarpur in Bihar, the police said. Arrested on the intervening night of August 13-14, he had been residing in Delhi-NCR for 15 years. He was involved in more than 65 criminal cases, including two cases of attempt to murder, 30 of dacoity/ robbery, 12 of snatching, five cases of theft, five under the Arms Act and various assault and intimidation cases in Delhi, said DCP PS Kushwah.

“He was wanted in three fresh cases of armed robberies in Laxmi Nagar, Shakarpur and Badarpur, Delhi. As he skipped court dates in several cases, he was declared a proclaimed offender,” he said. He carried a reward of Rs 50,000 for clues leading to his arrest in three cases of robbery.

The Special Cell received information that the accused had a hideout in Lal Kuan, Ghaziabad, UP. After discreet surveillance, it was revealed that he had reorganised his gang and had taken to armed robberies in the Delhi NCR, DCP said.

The police received information in the afternoon of August 13 that the accused would be in the vicinity of  Shriram Dharamkanta, Lal Kuan, Ghaziabad, between 8pm-9pm to meet his contact. A trap was laid at about 8.45 pm. The accused was spotted near the Dharamkanta and Kanha Hotel. He was overpowered and arrested, he said.

The accused was an associate of the Shakeel-Satte group for seven years. Dhananjay was arrested in 39 cases of robbery and snatching with Shakeel in 2014. The latter was arrested by the Special Cell two months ago. He is brother-in-law of Satyaprakash alias Satte, an extortionist involved in more than 70 criminal cases, the DCP added.
