New Delhi, November 5

The Congress today said the Delhi police protests in the capital were a sign of political “failure” of the BJP government and Home Minister Amit Shah. It said the government must tell the people if this was the New India it promised?

AICC media head Randeep Surjewala said the protests by Delhi police outside their own headquarters here were unprecedented and a first in the India’s independent history.

“This is a mark of a collapsing law and order situation. Even earlier, we saw the Central Bureau of Investigation taking control of its headquarters. What is happening in this country?

For 10 hours today, Delhi police personnel took siege of the police headquarters. Police personnel are being beaten up. Bullets are being fired at lawyers. The law and order structure is shattering and the Home Minister is missing in action all day,” Surjewala said, asking why the government took 12 hours to resolve the impasse which also saw family members of Delhi police people staging a dharna at the India Gate.
