Cop arrested for taking bribe

NEW DELHI:A truck owner approached Vigilance Branch of the Delhi Police with a complaint that a sub-inspector (SI) Amit Kumar, posted at the Punjabi Bagh Police Station, has asked him bribe for not taking action against him on verbal complaint of a transporter regarding theft of his goods in transit, said Additional Commissioner of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi (Vigilance).

A truck owner approached Vigilance Branch of the Delhi Police with a complaint that a sub-inspector (SI) Amit Kumar, posted at the Punjabi Bagh Police Station, has asked him bribe for not taking action against him on verbal complaint of a transporter regarding theft of his goods in transit, said Additional Commissioner of Police Omvir Singh Bishnoi (Vigilance). The SI has already taken Rs 2.80 lakh from him and was demanding Rs 2.20 lakh more.

Yesterday, the complainant brought installment of Rs 50,000 to pay the bribe to the SI, he said.

The raiding team of vigilance, along with witness and complainant, reached Punjabi Bagh and was waiting for SI Kumar.

Shekar Kumar, who played the role of a mediator, called the complainant and asked him to meet the SI in his office in Phool Bagh here.

The complainant and witness went to the office, the Vigilance team followed them. The SI took Rs 50,000 from the complainant.

On the witness’s signal, the team held the SI and Shekhar Kumar. 

The money was recovered from the SI. — TNS
