New Delhi, March 21

BSES has exhorted the residents to minimise their use of electricity by turning off extra lights on March 25 when the whole world will observe “Earth Hour”.

As a part of the global campaign, in India where it is being implemented in since 2009, the earth hour will be from 8:30 pm to 9:30pm.

BRPL and BYPL have been spreading the word by sending their customers’ monthly/bi-lingual newsletters and SMSs urging them to pledge their support to the cause by switching off non-essential electrical lights and appliances.

According to the BSES, the official partner of Earth Hour, Delhi saved around 230MW last year during the earth hour when it managed to “save” up to 207 MW.

The power distribution company spokesperson said it has been actively supporting and promoting the Earth Hour initiative and in process urges residents to participate in the movement for reducing power consumption, switching to solar energy and creating awareness about climate change.

BRPL and BYPL, themselves, will also switch off all non-essential lights in their over 400 offices spread awareness about the event to its 40 lakh customers.
