Complete Rani Jhansi flyover project by Oct-end, LG tells officials

Lt Governor Anil Baijal today inspected the under-construction Rani Jhansi grade separator, an ambitious flyover project in North Delhi, and directed officials to complete the project work by October.

The 1.6-km-long flyover from near St Stephen's Hospital to Filmistaan Cinema, was originally scheduled to be completed by 2010, but has missed several deadlines.

Baijal also directed all stakeholders to take action in a time-bound manner and work within strict timelines.

"The LG will again visit the site after a month to review the progress of the project and ensure that this much-needed project for decongestion of traffic in the area is completed by October-end," statement issued from LG office said.

He chaired an onsite meeting with all stakeholders at DCM Chowk and enquired about various bottlenecks which are delaying the project.

North Delhi Municipal Corporation Commissioner PK Gupta told Baijal that despite "various hindrances" coming in the alignment, "most of the work has been completed".

Northern Railway official present in the meeting said the railway work will be completed by mid-September.

The Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO informed the LG that the work of shifting of major pipelines and sewer will be completed by tomorrow. Baijal urged the DJB CEO to ensure that there should be no leakage from pipelines, the statement said.

The LG also directed the NDMC commissioner to ensure there are no potholes on the road to avoid waterlogging during the rainy season.

New Delhi Mayor Preety Agarwal had also on May 25 inspected the progress of the construction.

"The project will benefit residents of areas like Shakti Nagar, Karol Bagh, Gulabi Bagh, Kamla Nagar, Sadar Bazar, Paharganj, Azad Market and surrounding areas," she had said.

Task force formed to decongest busy corridors

Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal today constituted a task force to resolve the issues like design, road engineering, infrastructure, enforcement, traffic management and decongestion on selected corridors in South Delhi. The decision was taken in a meeting with the representatives of the Public Works Department, Delhi Transport Corporation, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, Delhi Jal Board, BSES, Forest Department, AIIMS, Delhi Traffic Police and the South Delhi Municipal Corporation.

DCP, traffic, (Southern range) Vijay Singh said, the selected corridors are Aurobindo Marg from INA to Andheria More, Neela Gumbad corridor from Neela Gumbad to Badarpur Border, Savtri flyover from Modi Mill to Savitri Flyover and Mehrauli-Badarpur corridor, including IGNOU Road. “We will see that soon the massive traffic jam in these corridors is lifted,” the DCP (traffic) said.
