Bus commuters will be able to get information about arrival of vehicles at bus shelters in the capital using their smartphones, said Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot after launching a pilot project of integrated map facility at the government’s four bus shelters.

The government has revamped its existing Poocho app and will relaunch it with additional features in the next two weeks, the minister added.

Gahlot said due to some problems in the GPS installed in DTC buses, their location is often not detected and the government is working towards resolving the issue.

Developed by the Delhi Integrated Multi-Model Transit System, the app is also supposed to provide real-time location of bus and routes.

Commuters, who are unable to use the bus network now, will thus find it convenient and they can accordingly plan their journeys with the help of maps at bus shelters, Gahlot said.

The minister said once the pilot project of map facility is completed, the government will scale this feature to all bus shelters in Delhi and also introduce the facility of real-time tracking of bus arrival time at bus shelters in the next one-and-a-half years.

The map has been designed for each bus stop and comprises a visual cognitive map of all bus routes passing through the bus stop, Delhi metro network and key landmarks in keeping with global best practices of designing cognitive transit maps at par with cities such as New York and London.
