New Delhi, March 20

Credit for opening Sikh educational institutions, expansion of historic gurdwaras, their beautification, bringing of weapons of Guru Gobind Singh back from London, second language status to Punjabi in Delhi, Punjabi Kavi Sammelan at Red Fort and various other charitable services goes to late Sikh leader, Jathedar Santokh Singh, said various speakers at a book release function, Sardar-e-Azam Santokh Singh.

The book was released by Vijay Kumar Malhotra, a senior BJP leader at the function organised by the Jathedar Santokh Singh Memorial Committee.

The book was compiled jointly by Prof Harbans Kaur Saggu and a senior journalist, Jaswant Singh Ajit who had the first hand information about Santokh Singh.

Kotwali was a police station adjacent to Sis Ganj Gurdwara in Chandni Chowk. Following the efforts of Santokh Singh, the Union government had given Kotwali property to gurdwara where a girl school and a community kitchen are being run. Not only this, he was part of the movement launched for giving Punjabi the second language status in Delhi and starting Punjabi Kavi Sammelan at Red Fort before the Republic Day function.
