Lt Governor Anil Baijal in law and order meeting today reviewed the three years’ roadmap of the Delhi Police for combating cybercrime.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary, Pr. Secretary (Home), GNCTD, Commissioner of Police, Special and Joint Commissioners of Police of the Delhi Police.

The Delhi Police made a detailed presentation regarding prevalent cybercrimes and the measures to check them. The presentation covered technical as well as human resources aspects to combat the cybercrime.

The LG was also briefed about various issues and the multi-level structure, including cyber teams from police stations and centralised cybercrime units. The presentation covered various aspects like gathering of actionable intelligence, forensics, investigation, prosecution, awareness and training programmes.

He was apprised of that the Delhi Police is actively monitoring and working on cracking of different malwares like ransomware, bitcoin thefts and frauds.

In addition to this, new areas like network forensics, cloud forensics, advance mobile forensics are being taken up.

Further, the LG stressed upon periodic assessment and review of the progress made upon them, so that the work can be accomplished in a time-bound manner. He said effective awareness campaigns be launched as a preventive measure to educate the people about the precautions that they must take care while using their gadgets and before imparting with any personal sensitive information.

He directed the department to focus on building a skilled, capable and dedicated human resource because that would be its primary weapon in combating cybercrime and also advised the Delhi Police to suitably incentivise existing personnel in this regard besides making appropriate modifications to its recruitment procedures for inducting the best talent available to help it fight cybercrime effectively.
