Auto thieves who sold vehicles on OLX held

NEW DELHI: The police have arrested a gang of five auto thieves, Rakib, alias Rehan Khan (30), Umesh Kumar (27), Sakib Khan (26), Shahzeb Alam (27) and Vinay Kumar (32) and cracked 11 cases of vehicle theft, said police.

The police have arrested a gang of five auto thieves, Rakib, alias Rehan Khan (30), Umesh Kumar (27), Sakib Khan (26), Shahzeb Alam (27) and Vinay Kumar (32) and cracked 11 cases of vehicle theft, said police.

These criminals were involved in selling stolen vehicles through an online portal, OLX. On March 18, during a checking near MP Road T-Point in Okhla, two suspects riding a motorcycle were seen, who were signaled to stop. Instead, they sped up. However, the officials apprehended them.

They were identified as Rakib and Umesh. They were asked to produce the documents of the motorcycle but they failed to produce any. On verification, the motorcycle was found stolen.

On their instance, Sakib, Vinay and Shahzeb were arrested and 11 stolen motorcycles, including four bullets, master key, 15 blank PVC Inkjet Printable Chip Cards, forged driving license, Registration Certificate and Aadhar cards were recovered from their possession.

Rakib, alongwith Sakib, wanted to open a motorcycle showroom.

They had also hired Shahzeb, who used to prepare fake documents for them, said DCP  (Southeast).

Then they modified the stolen motocycles and advertise them for sale on online portals like OLX, he said.

Accused persons had already sold 4 bullet motorcycles to bonafide purchasers on OLX. After selling them, accused used to shut down their OLX account and used to open a new one for another deal, DCP added. – TNS
