ATM thief arrested

NEW DELHI:The New Delhi Railway Station police have arrested an ATM thief, Azad (22), who used to befriend with his victims, earn their confidence and then steal their ATM card and sweep the accounts, said a Delhi police official.

The New Delhi Railway Station police have arrested an ATM thief, Azad (22), who used to befriend with his victims, earn their confidence and then steal their ATM card and sweep the accounts, said a Delhi police official. The accused is a native of Bawana, Delhi.

According to complainant Raviranjan Kumar, of Bihar, on February 12, he reached New Delhi Railway Station to go to his native village.

Two persons met him and told that they were also going to Bihar. During this time Kumar felt the need of some money so he went to a nearby ATM at the station.

They also followed him. When Kumar was withdrawing his money they noticed his ATM password. Thereafter, they took away Kumar’s bag containing ATM card and Rs 1,400.

Later on, Kumar found that an amount of Rs 2 lakh was withdrawn from his account through his stolen ATM card.

During investigation the police obtained the CCTV camera footage of platforms and ATM. The police also got to know that in similar type of theft case one person was arrested from Paharganj.

CCTV camera footage was matched with the details of that arrested person. His name was revealed as Azad. Azad said that he, along with his friend Kallu, had committed this offence. Kallu is still absconding.
