New Delhi, September 18

Two days after the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students Union was elected, Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman expressed concern over alleged support to anti-national elements from within the JNU Students Union (JNUSU). Sitharaman, who is herself an alumnus of JNU, said she felt uneasy over the participation of JNUSU members with anti-India forces.

In an interaction with members of the Indian Women’s Press Corps (IWPC), Sitharaman expressing her sadness said, “Election time argument disputes are norm but the kind of things which have happened in the last few years are really not encouraging. It's very different to have a party whose ideologies may not be to agree with but the way in which they have probably got led by anti-India forces.’’
