New Delhi, February 13

The Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) has directed the SHO of Nand Nagri to register a case against a man for abandoning his spouse, who is a transgender, after receiving a complaint in this regard.

The commission was recently approached with the complaint from a transgender that two years ago she married a man with whom she was in a relationship for four years.

After three months of the marriage, she came to know that he had married again. When she objected to this marriage, her husband assaulted her physically. She sought police intervention but failed to get any support, said an official of DCW.

During this time, the couple continued to fight and on one occasion the husband beat her up so brutally that she had to be hospitalised. The man’s family too is threatening her that they will kill her.

The man has fleeced her of all her life savings in the last few years, the DCW official.

The commission has provided her a government lawyer through the Delhi State Legal Services Authority to file a court case against her husband.
