AAP’s allegations against Gambhir baseless, says Goel

NEW DELHI: Union minister Vijay Goel said the claim made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that the BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir distributed pamphlets maligning the image of Atishi is completely baseless and wrong. Gambhir has been blamed without any proof and this is an example of un-parliamentary behaviour of the AAP.

New Delhi, May 10

Union minister Vijay Goel said the claim made by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that the BJP candidate Gautam Gambhir distributed pamphlets maligning the image of Atishi is completely baseless and wrong. Gambhir has been blamed without any proof and this is an example of un-parliamentary behaviour of the AAP.

Goel said this showed the desperation of the AAP foreseeing its loss in the coming elections. It has put baseless allegations against the former cricketer for which Gambhir has filed a defamation case against Atishi, Manish Sisodia and Arvind Kejriwal.

Addressing a joint conference with Delhi BJP vice-president Shazia Ilmi and spokesperson Nupur Sharma, the Union minister said people of east Delhi were committed to make Gambhir win with an absolute majority. The AAP has a habit of putting baseless allegations.

Ilmi said she was really saddened to see that a cricketer who has brought laurels to the nation was being pointed finger at. "The AAP has always started off with a false propaganda and it also had run propaganda against me. Atishi Marlena got published this pamphlet herself and distributed in the public, later she cried in front of the media and played a woman victim card. This is the lowest form of politics we have seen," Ilmi said.

Gambhir has lodged his complaint with the Geeta Colony Police Station.

If the charges are not approved, would Kejriwal, Sisodia and Atishi resign, she questioned.
