New Delhi, June 23

In the wake of nine murders that took place in the past 24 hours, the AAP today questioned the law and order situation in the national capital.

“Delhi is witnessing a dangerous spurt in serious crimes. An elderly couple and their domestic help were murdered in Vasant Vihar. Nine murders reported in last 24 hours across the city. Whose door should be knocked for safety & security of Delhiites? (sic),” tweeted the Chief Minister.

“Delhi’s always known as one of the unsafe cities and for the past few weeks, the situation is deteriorating here,” said AAP leader Atishi Marlena during a press conference at the party office today. People of Delhi were not safe even in their homes, said Atishi.

She said in the past 30 days around 220 gunshots were reported during different gang wars. “Who is responsible and answerable for the worsening law and order situation in the city?” she asked.

Atishi said the functioning of the Delhi Police comes under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Home Affairs and the police department reports to the Lieutenant Governor, a BJP nominee. — TNS
