New Delhi, January 14

Ahead of Republic Day celebrations, Intelligence agencies have intercepted calls related to a possible terrorist attack on January 26,  said a Delhi Police special cell official.

The police official said as per inputs, three terrorists from Afghanistan had been reportedly hiding in Jama Masjid area and intercepted calls were from their handlers based in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama. The official added the ultras had received training at a camp in Pakistan.

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has beefed up security at IGI Airport and at all metro stations.

It has also enhanced strength of quick reaction teams and dog squads among other preventive measures, said a senior official.

Commuters will be asked to undergo double-frisking at metro stations and the CISF has asked the metro officials to act as “eyes and ears” of the force.

“We have beefed up security and preparations have been made to ensure that quick reaction teams are present whenever needed,” said Raghubir Lal DIG (metro).

“A meeting was held with Delhi Metro Rail Police and other police forces so that our coordination is better,” CISF official said.
