17 handicraft artisans felicitated

To keep alive heritage and traditional artworks, 17 handicraft artisans were today honoured with the Delhi State Awards 2012 and 2013.

The awards were presented during an event organised by the Industries Department by Delhi Industries Minister Satyendar Jain today.

“Even in the age of computerisation, there is no substitute for our traditional handicrafts. We should make every effort to promote our traditional arts and their creators,” Jain said.

The awardees for the state award for 2012 are: Neetu Singh (artificial jewellery), Ram Krishna Baidya (Shola Pit), Narinder (terra cotta), Nazia (metal craft), Kum Kum (Madhubani painting), Neetu Verma (zari zardozi), Mangni Ram (leather craft), Iqbal Sheikh (lakh craft) and Papiya Bhasker (hand embriodery).

The awardees for the state award for 2013 included Vikram (terra cotta), Dilshad Alam (cane and bamboo), Renu Devi (Madhubani painting), Poonam (beads craft), Qamar Jahan Siddiqui (hand embroidery), Deen Dayal (terra cotta), Abhishek Dhawan (wood inlay) and Taj Ahmed (musical instruments).
