‘Pollution can be tackled by cooperation from neighbours’

Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal today asserted that the pollution in the national capital is not a local issue and needs combined efforts and cooperation from the neighbouring states in tackling it.

A new study by The Energy and Resources Institute  indicating that factors originating from neighbouring areas largely contribute to the air pollution in Delhi while its own share in it is found to be little over 25 per cent.

The study revealed that 74 per cent of the capital’s 2.5 particulate matter load comes from outside the city during summers while in winters around 64 per cent pollution load is contributed by factors linked to adjoining regions.

“Whereas Del govt and Delhi’s citizens are making efforts to reduce pollution and we need to further increase our efforts, however, Delhi’s pollution is not a local problem and can be tackled only with active cooperation from neighbouring states,” tweeted Kejriwal.
