With the note-for-vote and freebies having been a style of seeking votes, the 'Kejriwal Effect' certainly helped in reducing the payment of money during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, said a study by CMS.

CMS has been tracking the general trend of luring voters by cash and gifts across the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections since 2007.

"The lure of cash which candidates informally distribute on the poll eve is another important means of getting voters to vote for a particular candidate or party. This phenomenon has become alarming," said Regi V John, senior CMS official.

"This finding of 'Kejriwal Effect' is significant. As most surveys are predicting a close fight between the AAP and BJP," he said.
