The police failed to trace the accused driver of the truck that collided with a Santro car near the Chhat traffic lights on Saturday night.

Two persons were killed in the collision. After the incident, the police promptly registered a case under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) of the IPC against the truck driver.

Though the police got the registration number of the truck with the help of some passersby, they are yet to trace the truck and accused driver.

If eyewitnesses are to be believed the accident took place due to rash driving by the tipper driver.

Investigating officer Ravinder Singh said a search had been launched after receiving information from sources and evidences

He further added that a police team tomorrow would go to the RTA office in Patiala and get the required details on the basis of the registration number.

Two youths from Zirakpur, working with a private firm, lost their lives when the car they were travelling in collided with a speeding truck on the Patiala-Zirakpur stretch near the Chhat traffic lights yesterday.

However, the truck driver fled from the spot. Commuters on their way were shocked to see one of the bodies of the deceased dangling from the car window next to the driver’s seat.
