Chandigarh, January 9

A 19-year-old youth wanted in a case by the J&K Police was arrested during a tenant verification drive in the city.

The police said Nasir Ahmad, a resident of Kupwara district, who was residing at Mani Majra, was arrested after it was found that he was wanted in a case registered at the Kralpora police station in Kupwara, J&K.

The police said Nasir’s neighbour had informed them about him staying in the locality. Nasir had then threatened the neighbour.

The police initiated an investigation and found that Nasir had two cases registered against him at the Kralpora police station. One of them was of rioting. “He is wanted in a case of outraging the modesty of a woman,” said a police official.

The UT police then arrested him under preventive measures.

A case against his landlord Gurpal Singh was registered at the Mani Majra police station for not informing the police about the tenant and getting his verification done.

Meanwhile, the police have also booked three other landlords in the city for not getting tenant verification done.
