Youth thrashed, robbed of Rs 11K

Chandigarh: A 29-year-old youth was thrashed by three persons and robbed of Rs 11,000 at Hallo Majra on Saturday night. Arjun Chauhan, a resident of Hallo Majra, was returning home when three miscreants stopped him near the government school and asked him to give them money to buy liquor.

The victim, Arjun Chauhan, a resident of Hallo Majra, was returning home when three miscreants stopped him near the government school and asked him to give them money to buy liquor. Arjun said when he refused, they hit him with a sharp weapon on his head. “They then snatched the money from me,” he said. The victim identified two of the suspects as Sonu and Sanju. The police were informed after which he was taken to the GMCH, Sector 32. He got stitches on his head. TNS

Rs 1.50l stolen from car

Chandigarh: An unidentified person stole a bag containing Rs 1.50 lakh from a car in Sector 26 after befooling the owner on Saturday night. According to the police, complainant Navrattan Kumar Jain, a resident of Sector 15, Panchkula, who is a trader at the grain market in Sector 26, was leaving in his car when a person approached him and claimed that oil was leaking from the engine. He indulged the victim in a conversation, while his accomplice stole the bag from the car. TNS

Boy bitten by snake, critical

Dera Bassi: A 10-year-old boy fell unconscious after being bitten by a snake here on Sunday. Sources said the victim, Jashanjit Singh, a resident of Dhanauni village, Dera Bassi, was referred to the GMCH-32, Chandigarh, in a critical condition. As per the eyewitness, the snake bit Jashanjit when he stepped on it while playing near his house. He was rushed to the hospital where his condition is stated to be critical. OC

Thieves strike at Dera Bassi house

Dera Bassi: Thieves struck at a house in Shakit Nagar here and decamped with valuables and Rs 1.70 lakh. According to sources, the family members were away when the miscreants targeted their house. The incident came to light when they returned home on Sunday and found the locks broken. House owner Munish Nagpal told the police that he, along with his family, had gone out of the city to meet their relatives. When they returned home on Sunday, they found the locks of their safe broken and around Rs 1.70 lakh in cash and gold ornaments missing. The family members had approached the police following which an investigation has been initiated. OC

Two arrested under NDPS Act

Ambala: The CIA-2 of Ambala police arrested two men and recovered 24-gram heroin from them on Sunday. The suspects have been identified as Suraj Verma of Delhi and Sahil Sharma of Ambala City. Acting on a tip-off that Suraj and Sahil sell heroin in their car and they will be moving through the city area, a naka was laid and their car was stopped at INCO Chowk around 1 am. During checking, 24-gram heroin was recovered from them. A case has been registered. The suspects were produced before a court, which sent Suarj to judicial custody, while Sahil to police remand.
