Mohali, January 3

A 31-year-old unmarried person, staying as a paying guest at Mataur village, here, shot himself in a bid to commit suicide at his residence last night.

In his statement to the police, the victim, identified as Karamjit Singh, who is working with a call centre, here, said he got emotional while remembering his late mother and shot himself with a revolver of his friend.

The victim’s condition is said to be critical as his lower body parts have stopped functioning.

“He could speak and listen,” said inspector Jarnail Singh, Station House Officer (SHO), Mataur police station, here.

The SHO said Karamjit, along with his certain friends, was partying at his residence late last night when the incident occurred.

“His mother had died a couple of years ago. He told us that he got emotional while remembering his mother and shot himself,” the SHO said.

After hearing the gunshot, the watchman of the area reached the spot. Victim’s friends shifted Karamjit to a nearby private hospital.

“The revolver belonged to the victim’s friend, Ginder, who has gone to Amritsar. We have summoned him for further investigation,” said inspector Jarnail Singh.

The police are yet to know whether or not the weapon in question was licensed.

“We have initiated legal action in the incident. A case is yet to be registered in this regard,” the SHO said.
