Youth gets 7-yr jail for raping minor

A local court today sentenced 22-year-old Sunil Kumar, a resident of Nayagaon, to seven years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 1.12 lakh for raping a minor. The accused was booked under Sections 3 and 4 of the POCSO Act on the victim’ complaint.

According to the complaint, the 13-year-old victim was also a resident of Nayagaon and lived with her family. Her father was a daily wager while mother worked as a house help. On January 22, Sunil came to her house and took her away on the pretext of getting her a job.

Sunil took her to the forest area of Dhanas village, where he raped her and left her there. The victim somehow reached the main road and informed some passersby. The police was informed about the incident.

A PCR vehicle reached the spot and took the victim to the GMSH, Sector 16. Her medical examination was conducted there, and later a case was registered.
