Chandigarh, September 14

A local court today sentenced a 26-year-old Mohali resident to 20 years in jail for possessing 94 banned injections. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 2 lakh on the convict.

The convict, Jaipal, a resident of Phase IX here, has been sentenced under Section 22 of the NDPS Act.

The case dates back to April 12, 2017, when a team of the Maloya police had laid a naka near the Grain Market chowk near Maloya to check suspicious vehicles.

A youth, who was coming on foot from the grain market, changed his direction on seeing the police team at the naka. The police got suspicious and stopped the suspect. During checking, the police found a packet containing banned injections from his possession. Jaipal could not produce the permit for carrying the injections.

He was arrested and a case under the NDPS Act was registered against him at the Maloya police station.

During investigation, the police found that Jaipal used to sell the injections to drug addicts in the city. Each injection was sold for Rs 200.
